Bro, do you even lift? Chances are you probably do!
Manual handling is a vital skill to learn, whatever you do in life. We all (most of us anyways) lift things once in a blue moon, and it’s important to know how to do that right. If you’re not careful, you can end up with some dumb injuries that could’ve easily been avoided.
We’ve made a manual handling infographic that you can print, share, hang on your fridge, pass to strangers, or put on the office noticeboard. Actually, you can do whatever you’d like with it, as long as you promise us to be careful when you lift things.
Top Tips For Manual Handling
#1 Conduct a manual handling risk assessment and make sure all employees have the correct training
#2 Whenever you can use mechanical aids, do it
#3 Plan a route before you start and pay attention to the surface you’re working on
#4 Bend your knees, not your back. Then lift like you’re doing a squat
#5 Hold the load close to your body
#6 Avoid twisting or leaning
#7 Know your limits. If you’re in doubt whether you can lift it – don’t do it
#8 Keep your head up
#9 Always push a load rather than pull
