If you’re in any doubt, please reach out to our backstage team who will be delighted to advise you in what would be the best option for you (even if it’s a course we don’t offer).

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however some people choose to complete a lower-level course first (such as IOSH Managing Safely) to give them a grounding in the subject matter before taking on the NEBOSH qualification.

It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

For more information on IELTS, please visit:

https://www.ielts.org/

The qualification is RQF/CQFW Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and SCQF Level 6 in Scotland. This is an equivalent level to taking an A-Level in England, Wales and NI or Higher in Scotland.

The biggest challenge most learners face is finding the time to complete the coursework and studying. Please bear this in mind when signing up for the course and ensure you have allowed enough time to complete the qualification.

Our team of presenters and backstage staff will fully support you through your learning journey.

Every individual is different and the amount of studying required will depend on your existing knowledge and experience. However, it is recommended that learners commit to 30-40 hours of personal study time in addition to the ten days presenter-led training to maximise their chance of being successful in achieving their desired pass mark.

There are two parts to the NGC examination. Unit 1 (known as NG1) is an open book written exam. The pass marks are:

75 marks or higher: Distinction Pass

65-74 marks: Credit Pass

45-74 marks: Pass

Under 45 marks: Referred

The second part of the assessment is a practical unit (known as NG2).

Unit 2 requires you to complete a risk assessment project at your place of work (or another place of work if you are not employed) and submit this to us. The project takes around 3 hours to complete.

You must pass both parts (NG1 and NG2) to achieve the full Certification.

Yes! If for any reason you have been unable to complete the coursework or haven't gained enough marks to pass, you can resit the examinations at any time within 5 years from being registered as a student with NEBOSH.

If you don't receive enough marks to pass NG2 (the practical assessment) you will receive feedback from the NEBOSH examiner which will help you make the necessary changes before being able to re-submit at the next exam date.

Please note - additional fees for resits apply. Contact us for more information.

IOSH (The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) is the Chartered body and leading membership organisation for safety and health professionals.

NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) is an examination board offering qualifications and courses in health, safety, environment and well-being management.

Both organisations offer training courses however they are quite different.

NEBOSH General Certificate is a higher level qualification than IOSH Managing Safely for example. Some people complete both qualifications.

A NEBOSH General Certificate qualifies a person to become a Technical Member of IOSH (techIOSH).

If you’re unsure what course is right for you, please reach out to our friendly backstage team who will be happy to advise you.

The NEBOSH General Certificate is an internationally recognised Health & Safety qualification and can certainly bolster a CV. The certificate qualifies a person to become a Technical Member of IOSH (techIOSH) and is a good first step toward a career in Health & Safety Management.

No it does not expire! However Grow Training offer a 1-day non-accredited refresher course and it is advisable for delegates to complete this every three to five years. Some companies require this. The 1 day course is designed to provide delegates with all updates in Health and Safety legislation that have occurred over the previous 5 years.

Yes! The NEBOSH NG1 exam format changed on 1 July 2020 and is now open book. Exams are undertaken at home or in your workplace and are submitted online. Exam papers will be sent to you at a notified time and you will then have 24 hours to complete and return them. The exam should only take a few hours to complete, the 24 hours is to allow for the needs of learners across different time zones.

The open book nature of the exam does not necessarily make it easier however. Simply copying text out of a textbook will not be enough to pass the exam. You will be given a real-life scenario and asked to answer the questions in context. Dependent on the specific scenario, an example question might be:

How could you improve consultation with the workforce in this organisation?

Note: You should support your answer, where applicable, using relevant information from the scenario.

Your course tutor will fully prepare you for this assessment. At some point after completing and submitting your exam you will be interviewed by a tutor to check that you have an understanding of the responses you've given. They will also check your ID.

In the UK, the NEBOSH General Certificate is equivalent to an SCQF Level 6 qualification. This is comparable to NQF/QCF Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or A-level standard.

You will receive your exam results via email (sent to the email address used on the NEBOSH exam registration form) within 50 working days of taking the exams. NEBOSH will not give exam results over the phone.

You’ll receive your NEBOSH certificate 20 working days after getting your exam results.

Yes! We can deliver the NEBOSH General Certificate for your company either in person at your premises or via our Virtual Classroom platform.

NG1 should be studied before the NG2 practical assessment is undertaken. Whilst the NG2 assessment primarily assesses elements 5 – 11, the knowledge from elements 1.1, 1.2 and 3.4 is required to complete the assessment.

The National Certificate is based on UK legislation and is recognised worldwide. The International Certificate is based on International Standards of Best Practice and is recognised by employers outside of the UK.

As NEBOSH changed the method of assessment as of 1 July 2020, previous exam papers will not be useful in your studies. Your course tutor will give you guidance on what to expect to allow you to fully prepare.
