There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however some people choose to complete a lower-level course first (such as IOSH Managing Safely) to give them a grounding in the subject matter before taking on the NEBOSH qualification.

It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.  NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

The qualification is RQF/CQFW Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and SCQF Level 6 in Scotland. This is an equivalent level to taking an A-Level in England, Wales and NI or Higher in Scotland.

The biggest challenge most learners face is finding the time to complete the coursework and studying.  Please bear this in mind when signing up for the course and ensure you have allowed enough time to complete the qualification.

Our team of presenters and backstage staff will fully support you through your learning journey.

Every individual is different and the amount of studying required will depend on your existing knowledge and experience.  However, it is recommended that learners commit to 30-40 hours of personal study time in addition to the ten days presenter-led training to maximise their chance of being successful in achieving their desired pass mark.

NEBOSH have developed a practical assessment for this practical role.

The NC1 assessment is an open book examination (OBE), which will be based on a realistic scenario, that will test both what you know and what you can do. You will be asked to carry out a series of tasks using evidence from the scenario and the underpinning knowledge gained through your studies and revision. You will have 48 hours to download, complete and submit your assessment.

The grading will be based only on the mark for the NC1 assessment. Once you have achieved a “Pass”, your qualification will be grading using the following criteria:

Distinction: 75% or more Credit: 65% - 74% Pass: 45% - 64%

Your assessment will be marked by an external examiner appointed by NEBOSH. These examiners are chosen for their experience and expertise to ensure that learners are assessed by the very best from our industry.

Yes! If for any reason you have been unable to complete the coursework or haven't gained enough marks to pass, you can resit the examinations at any time within 5 years from being registered as a student with NEBOSH.

Please note - additional fees for resits apply. As of December 2021, the NEBOSH resit fee is £150 + VAT.  Contact us for more information.

IOSH (The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) is the Chartered body and leading membership organisation for safety and health professionals.

NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) is an examination board offering qualifications and courses in health, safety, environment and well-being management.

Both organisations offer training courses however they are quite different.

If you’re unsure what course is right for you, please reach out to our friendly backstage team who will be happy to advise you.

No it does not expire! However, it is recommended that you keep yourself updated with changes to construction legislation via CPD and refresher training.

Yes! The NEBOSH Health and Safety Management in Construction exam format is now open book.  Exams are undertaken at home or in your workplace and are submitted online.  Exam papers will be sent to you at a notified time and you will then have 24 hours to complete and return them.  The exam should take a few hours to complete, the 24 hours is to allow for the needs of leaners across different time zones.

The open book nature of the exam does not necessarily make it easier however.  Simply copying text out of a textbook will not be enough to pass the exam.  You will be given a real-life scenario and asked to answer the questions in context.  Dependent on the specific scenario, an example question might be:

How could you improve consultation with the workforce in this organisation?

Note: You should support your answer, where applicable, using relevant information from the scenario.

Your course tutor will fully prepare you for this assessment.  At some point after completing and submitting your exam you will be interviewed by a tutor to check that you have an understanding of the responses you've given.  They will also check your ID.

In the UK, the NEBOSH General Certificate is equivalent to an SCQF Level 6 qualification. This is comparable to NQF/QCF Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or A-level standard.

You will receive your exam results via email (sent to the email address used on the NEBOSH exam registration form) within 50 working days of taking the exams. NEBOSH will not give exam results over the phone.
